Our Farm Story

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

2 SHOES FARM was established in July 2014 a lifetime dream of mine. Our farm is located in the North east corner of Ball Ground Ga. at the foothills of North Georgia Mountains. It backs up to the Cherokee Native American Trail of Tears. We have 8 acres half house and pastures half woods. Hiking in our woods you can find a stream down in the holler, a lot of old Native American trees and history.

We have 3 horses, 2 quarter horses a Paint Poco and a Buckskin barrel horse Abby. Kenya is our big girl she is a Arabian Draft. My focus with the horses is on natural horsemanship. Horses are a part of my spiritual journey and part of my soul. You will not see our horses clipped, clean or living in a barn. Our horses live a natural way of life, they are ridden without bits in their mouth and communicate with me through their true spirt. They are wonderful listeners and super smart. We have 1 donkey Levi who was a rescue, but does his job by protecting the mares. Our 4 chickens Ms. Mable, Ms. Speckles and two new babies Matilda Jane and Sassafras. Pilgrim is our little Jack Russel dog who is our queen of the farm. Gunner well we do not know what he is, but he takes great care of all of us. Then there is Lucky our cat let’s say she is extraordinary.

We grow several organic crops during the different seasons. Fall & spring include different lettuce, carrots, garlic, onion, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower. Summer we have cucumbers, several different kinds of peppers, and tomatoes. We have sweet potato’s, watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, squash. We also have several different flower gardens filled with all kinds of perennials including: Tulips, Iris, Gladiolus, Black Eyed Susan’s. Several different types of , Lily’s Daisy, Hydrangeas and tons of wild flowers.

We stay busy keeping the farm going, everyday there is something different going on. Keeping up with the farm along with my job at Alpharetta Methodist preschool keeps me on my toes. As I have taught horse back ridding lessons and summer camps, my vision for this farm has been pulling me in a different direction.

My vision is to be able to teach young children about running a farm, Experiencing, caring for the animals and daily chores. Gardening using organic techniques and learning where our foods come from. Combining all this with academic learning, using a Reggio philosophy using nature and the outdoors to do all kinds of learning. Through counting and weighing eggs, rocks, flowers. Measuring sticks, hay bales, horses, and fences. Experiencing science through all the nature around us, Art and imagination is another one of my favorites. Going down to the holler sitting and just looking around drawing, painting being quiet. Just listening to all the sounds God has given us to hear. Yoga is another one of my focuses it brings me back to earth helping me concentrate and unwind. I love doing yoga with the children and seeing them relax. There are so many fun experiences the children can have at the farm. 2 Shoes Farm learning camp for children is to experience the wonder of animals, nature, organic gardening keep their academics fresh and most of all laughing have fun.

Starting in June this summer we will begin with one week in June. Our hours are early 8am -12pm due to early feeding of the animals, and the fact that it get’s so hot quickly. It is a short day, enabling us to regenerate ourselves for the next day. There is a lot to learn and do in a short 4 hours. We will have time for a snack and will switch gears from animals and gardening to art and academic fun.

We are excited for your child to experience our 2 Shoes Farm Learning Camp 2019.
